WEATHER UPDATE: In consultation with area emergency management officials, all Lafourche Parish public schools and offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, and all school-related activities are canceled. Decisions regarding Tuesday will be made Monday, and we will provide an update to our families regarding the safe reopening of schools once we are able to assess our campuses for any weather-related impacts. We will also continue working cooperatively with local authorities to ensure conditions are safe for students and staff to return. We will communicate updates on school operations through employee email, SchoolStatus, social media and our website, mylpsd.com. We encourage everyone to stay safe and warm and take precautionary measures.

CAMPUS UPDATE: At approximately 9:30 this morning, Saturday, Dec. 6, a light fixture in the girls P.E. locker room overheated causing a small fire. The fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system soon after it began, and the damage was minimal. The locker room was the only area impacted, and a restoration company is already onsite cleaning and repairing the damage. A full inspection of the electrical system is also underway. We expect to have the area cleaned by the end of the day today, and school will resume as usual Monday morning. All activities scheduled for the weekend will be held as planned.

We appreciate the quick response of the fire department and other emergency responders for ensuring the safety of those on campus and minimizing the damage to our school.

National Principals Month: Alison Chiasson

To celebrate National Principals Month, we’re sharing some fun facts about our amazing school administrators. Today you’ll learn more about Mrs. Alison Chiasson, principal of South Lafourche High School.

Here’s the inside scoop on Mrs. Chiasson:

🐟 She has been a principal for one year.
🐟 She says the most rewarding part of being a principal is knowing that her decisions, guidance, and support systems can positively change the trajectory of a young person's life. She loves seeing the growth of students during their four-year tenure of high school.
🐟 English was her favorite subject in school. The older she got, she was fascinated by how words could influence thought, inspire change, and connect people.
🐟 Her favorite school lunch is gumbo.
🐟 An item on her bucket list is visiting Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada.
🐟 Outside of work, she enjoys shopping, reading, vacationing and spending time with family.
🐟 Fun Fact: She was the state free throw champion when she was 14.

Freshmen will take pictures on Monday, 10/6.
Sophomores on Tuesday, 10/7.
Juniors on Wednesday, 10/8.
Makeups will be on Thursday, 10/9.
Makeups are only for students who were absent on their assigned picture day.
Juniors who take English at the CMC will be called to take pictures on Wednesday morning.
Seniors will take their cap and gown pictures in December.
